The scheme involved the major redevelopment of the existing Furness Vocational College campus site.
This included the demolition of a number of existing buildings, retention of one building and remodelling/refurbishment of another building.
The vocational curriculum will now be incorporated into one multi-storey, multi-functional iconic building.
The building is steel framed supported on piled foundations and incorporates large open span workshop areas at ground and first floor levels, with classrooms and admin distributed throughout with plant accommodated in dedicated areas in the high level roof scope.
Street zones exist throughout the building to provide access at each level to the various areas linked at first floor via a steelwork bridge to the separate refurbished retained building.
Alan Johnston Partnership was retained by the college along with the other members of the design team from the feasibility stage to completion.
