Edge Hill Health Building
The building occupies an area of the campus adjacent to an existing lake. The ground floor is below the level of the lake with the first at lake level. Extensive glazed elevations provide wonderful views onto the lake.
To meet a very tight programme the client procured and constructed the project in stages. The approach put an emphasis to resolve most structural issues whilst the overall design was still evolving.
The building utilises a braced steel frame to support permanent steel composite decking. Wide communication areas at each level give the building opportunities for breakout space which is complimented by the extensive use of glazing. A large lecture theatre is incorporated into the design which can be split down to three separate theatres by full height acoustic folding doors. With two cafÈ restaurants, extensive office space and teaching accommodation the building is located close to the lake with its lower floor below the lake.
